Barnsley House is located in the centre of the small and attractive Cotswold village of Barnsley on the B4425 (Cirencester to Bibury and Burford road), 4 miles north-east of Cirencester, only 90 minutes from West London, 60 minutes by train (Kemble) and one hour from the Midlands. they also have their own Helipad. This was Rosemary Verey’s philosophy for her garden and an essential part of what made Barnsley House the place it became. Carved in stone above the garden door is the date 1697 with the initials ‘B.B.’. This stands for Brereton Bouchier, squire of Barnsley, who built the house of locally quarried Cotswold stone. Symmetrical, simple yet beautiful, it faces south-east, so has the the full benefit of the rising sun.
In the 1950’s Rosemary Verey began re-designing the garden and gradually transformed it into its present layout. The house and grounds gained international acclaim as a place of remarkable beauty, visited by garden lovers from around the world eager to discover for themselves this perfect example of the English country house and garden.
Graham Grafton honed his skills in London's Caprice, Bibendum and Chez Bruce, before joining Tim and Rupert at the village pub in Barnsley. Together they transformed the pub and built a reputation for fantastic food, warm hospitality and a great atmosphere.
Graham's aim for the restaurant at Barnsley House to be the stage for its home-grown produce. There is much more emphasis placed on sound technique rather than looks. Dishes that are robust, simple and absolutely fresh.
The restaurant serves modern European food with an Italian influence.
